Okay, Stargate Fandom, I need your opinion(s). Most of you maintain websites, right? What software did you use to create them? DreamWeaver, FrontPage, iWeb, a wizard on some free hosting site? I'm looking for opinions about Mac-based apps, particularly, so if you have any experience in that area, please share!

Also, do you serve your own pages, or do you use an established webhost? If the latter, which would you recommend, and which would you recommend against? Dreamhost? GoDaddy? .mac?

Any help would be hugely appreciated!!!

Good God, it's been forever since I've watched some of these episodes! And since I've read some of the fic! Jojo, MichelleV, nanda, Suz, Julie/splash, Little Red, elly, SelDear, Lise Yeager, Karen T., Katie M., Lyssie, A.j., Alli Snow, cofax, indie, Tripoli, Salieri, Claira, Denise, Jo R., qwirky, ness, cgb, rowan_d, Jennghis, daisycm83, dietcokechic, B. Cavis... to name but a few... Your stories are like old friends, and I love them so much it's scary.

I almost never send feedback, and I should. Probably what stopped me back when I was heavy on fic-reading was that, I was heavy on fic-reading. I would read ten, twenty, thirty stories a day. If I was reading one of Doc's novels, that was one thing. There was a time when I would gladly sacrifice three or fours days of moderate to heavy reading to get through "Cost of Living," but there were days and weeks where I wanted short stories, and you all gave them to me - fic was free and plentiful and FUN! I always, always compose a squeeful feedback in my head, but at the end of each story, I just want to keep reading. No time for pauses, no time for emails, even when they're extremely well-deserved. Mea culpa, mea culpa. PLEASE don't stop writing just because I'm a bad fan. Please?

Even more than the fic, I realize that man, I miss this show. It's been a couple years since it was good, really good, y'know? It's been awhile since I've been in the Happy Fan zone where I HAVE to tape it or I HAVE to read the latest episode tags, and I miss that, too.

There is other good television. I know this.

I've moved on to Battlestar Galactica and Veronica Mars and Firefly and Dead Like Me, and I've revisited The X-Files and West Wing and Sports Night and classic Gilmore Girls and Buffy and even Roswell, for cryin' out loud.

But I haven't had the same love affair with any of those shows that I had with Stargate. (Or, come to think of it, with Babylon 5, back in the olden days.)


And I don't know why cracking up while reading fic has made me so wistful.


Oh well.


Off to read some more, then. :-)


OOH, and to watch music vids!!! Stargate Cantina! Alien Wuv! ALL of Suz's stuff because she has the best sense for lyrics in the whole fandom... Okay, I'm done now.

Here's why I read Stargate fanfiction (and, incidentally, why I watch the show in the first place).

THE HUMOR.

Oh. My. God.

It can be dry, it can be subtle, it can be cheesy, and it can be juvenile, but the humor of SG-1 is what hooked me in the beginning, and it's what keeps me coming back.

And it's what keeps me coming back to SG fic.

Has anyone else found it an enormously time-consuming task keeping track of things in Stargate fandom?

Well, I have. My solution? FicGate.

Of course, there are already plenty of lists out there to keep track of the day-to-day goings-on in the fandom. I'm sticking with the stories. This is where SG fandom happens for me. Therefore, in this journal, you will find my personal reviews of individual authors' work, including links to their sites, and fic recs for each author. At some point, I will probably spotlight archives I've visited and/or found useful.

The FicGate flist is pretty much comprised of fanfic author LiveJournals and Stargate LJ communities I enjoy.

If I've friended you, have no fear. I'm not stalking you! No worries about friending back, either.

Though, if you're reading this, I'd like you to say hi! Don't worry, like the bulk of SG fandom present on LiveJournal, I'm really very friendly!
